The Texas Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab is a part of the Extension Plant Pathology program. As such, we participate in various educational activities by providing our expertise in plant disease issues. Both K. Ong (Director and Extension Specialist) and S. McBride (Diagnostician) have conducted lectures and workshops on general plant pathology topics as well as materials on specific plant diseases. The educational programs are an essential outreach for the Plant Clinic and Extension Plant Pathology to encourage awareness of plant diseases in general, and to educate various groups of the public. Regardless of which audience group, we find it important to help our clientele to understand sustainable methods to manage plant disease problems. The beginning of any management method is the identification of the pathogen.
In addition to the TPDDL personnel, Extension Plant Pathology has Extension Plant Pathologists placed in various parts of Texas such as Overton in East Texas, Amarillo in the Texas panhandle and Uvalde in the Texas Hill Country area. These Extension Plant Pathologist addresses plant issues that are important and relevant to their areas, and strive to provide excellence in the service to improving the lives of people, businesses, and communities across Texas through high-quality, relevant education.
